The Intersport Insiders Guide to Morzine
Morzine is one of the main hub towns in the Portes du Soleil. The sheer size of this area becomes apparent when you look at the numbers - twelve resorts in two countries, 650km of pistes and a whopping 80 chairlifts. That said, it is likely that (unless you're very intrepid indeed), you'll spend most of your time in Avoriaz (via the Super Morzine lift) and the Pleney side, over towards Les Gets. Although Super Morzine accesses a larger area, there can be large queues so Pleney is a welcome, easy alternative during busy times.

Two obvious options are to take the Super Morzine lift and then spend the day lapping the east blues accessed via the Zore, Baron and Seraussaix lifts. Or take the Pleney lift and explore the blues from the Belvedera chair. Complete beginners will probably find it best to stick to the nursery slopes in Morzine.

You'll want to spend most of your time in Avoriaz. If Super Morzine is too busy, it might be worth taking the bus to Prodains and getting the big lift up to Avoriaz. From there, you have many options. The Grandes Combes, Lac Intrets, Prolays and Lindarets all offer varied reds that should keep most skiers occupied for the season, let alone the week. You might also want to explore Les Lindarets if Avoriaz is too crowded. Get the bus from Morzine to Ardent and take the lift from there.

You've probably already heard of the infamous ?Wall' run, which links Avoriaz to Switzerland. Head to the Chavanette area if you want to test yourself on this most famous of Alpine runs. Elsewhere, there area a number of blacks coming off the Grandes Combes chair, and a renowned black off the top of the Chamossiere chair.

Morzine is a ?Family +' resort. I means there is a program of special events and activities for families with young children - check the website for more information. Children under the age of 5 get a free ski pass; remember to bring proof of age.

Did you know?
Morzine has long been a stage finish on the Tour de France, but locals care more about the junior football teams competing in the highly-prized annual French Mountain Villages Football Tournament, held in Morzine every year.
