Val d'Isere is not just one of France's most popular resorts, it's one of Europe's top table destinations for a variety of skiing levels. Like Chamonix, (its oft-compared counterpart) there is a lot going on. The town teems with young skiers and snowboarders, there's plenty to occupy young families, the architecture is stunning (and it's high too - over 1600m); there's great shopping, restaurants to tempt every size of wallet, and the town links directly into the fabulous Espace Killy: over 300km of pistes serviced by state of the art lifts including two funicular railways and some large, fast gondolas flying out of Val centre. The town is also split into two distinct areas: Val d'Isere Centre Station (the biggest area), and Val d'Isere La Daille (a smaller village nearer to Tignes with apartment blocks and great access to the Funicular railway that accesses the Women's Downhill piste). A free bus - or 'navette' system - links both towns.
